How much do alterations cost?
There is no set minimum or maximum cost for alterations. Estimating a cost without examining your specific garment in person is not feasible. While costs can vary, the average range is from $600 to $1100. If you're interested in starting with a consultation, there is a $50 non-refundable fee, which covers the time spent meeting with you and providing detailed information. This fee will be subtracted from the final alteration cost if you decide to proceed. After the consultation or first fitting, I can provide a more accurate estimated cost range for you. At the first fitting, a payment of $100 is required, which will also be deducted from the final cost.
When are appointments?
My appointments are on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings. Usually, the first fitting is scheduled three months before your wedding or travel date. A final fitting is scheduled around three weeks before your wedding or travel date. If more appointments are needed, they will be scheduled within those time frames.
How long is my appointment?
Fitting appointments are scheduled for an hour each, typically 2 are needed. Please note, there is no set number of fittings. A consultation appointment is 45 minute appointment.
What is a consultation vs. first fitting?
A consultation is an appointment for discussing the work you want done, addressing any concerns, and determining the feasibility of changes. Although often unnecessary, it allows for discussing custom work. A first fitting is an appointment where all alteration markings are made. If you schedule a consultation, the first fitting will occur at a later date.
What should you bring to your first fitting?
It is essential to bring your shoes to every fitting. Without the exact shoes you plan to wear I am unable to mark a hem or bustle. For your initial fitting, please bring any undergarments you might want to try, such as shapewear, hosiery, bras, or tape. If the dress has a boned bodice, I can provide sew in bust cups. For dresses with soft, unstructured bodices, consider adhesive bras or strapless longline bras with a deep V in the back. Choose shapewear that is comfortable and invisible, opting for flesh/nude or blush tones. Some brides prefer no undergarments, which is also fine.
